Jomico Selects CATIA Version 5 for Sheet Metal Solutions
St. Louis, MO (USA) and Paris (France) September 5, 2000 Jomico Metal Fabricators, one of North America's leading and most well-established small precision sheet metal fabricators, Dassault Systemes and IBM today announce that Jomico has selected CATIA Version 5 as the standard platform for its component and assembly design in the aerospace, commercial, consumer and electronics industries. Jomico has also signed an agreement with Dassault Systemes and IBM to become a strategic partner in assisting in the development of future CATIA Solutions in the sheet metal industry.
After eighteen years of service, Jomicos customer projects began to exceed the capabilities of its existing installed high-end UNIX CAD/CAM system. The small metal shop evaluated leading competitive software for their capabilities to handle complex geometries, such as surfaces and lofts, to create solid models and to address the extensive sheet metal needs and capabilities that offered the tools for both the commercial and aerospace industries.
After an extensive evaluation of the latest midrange and high-end CAD/CAM products, Jomico chose CATIA V5 on Windows NT for its user-friendly, icon-driven interface. Additionally, CATIA V5 was the only solution that included the sheet metal features necessary to meet demanding customer needs, from light fixtures to missile parts. For training and implementation, Jomico worked closely with Advanced Enterprise Solutions (AES), an IBM Premier Business Partner.
Said, Thomas (Mike) Saputo, Jomico Metal Fabricators President, CATIA V5s wide range of features allow us the flexibility we need to accommodate customers in a variety of industries, such as automotive, agricultural, medical and aerospace. In addition, because CATIA V5 is so easy to use, our designers were productive immediately. We have also committed to partner with Metalsoft CAM Systems, a Dassault Systemes CAA partner, to take advantage of design from the factory floor to finished parts."
In the future, Jomico plans to use CATIA's knowledgeware capabilities to offer its customers real-time quotes that are more precise and delivered in less time than those created using their current methods. Jomico also intends to apply CATIA's browser-based viewing capabilities, which will allow its customers to view files from remote locations for a more efficient approval cycle.
Jomico has been on the cutting-edge of technology for over 30 years. In the early 1970's, they were one of the first small companies to install a Computer Numerical Control (CNC) punching machine and eight years later they were one of the earliest users in their industry to use computers for word processing, factory data collection, total costing and real time inventory. In 1982, Jomico was also one of the first laser cutter and high-end 3D CAD/CAM users in the mid-west, which includes being a sheetmetal software beta tester. Today, they are reducing costs by leveraging both the power of the Internet and CATIA Version 5.
"Applications like Jomicos and other small businesses illustrate how well CATIA V5 addresses the needs of companies of all sizes and in all industries," said Carlo Ranfagni, director of small and medium worldwide sales, IBM Product Lifecycle Management Solutions.
"With Jomico as a development partner for sheet metal solutions, our customers will have the expertise of industry leading professionals at their disposal," added, Philippe Forestier, executive vice president, sales and marketing, Dassault Systemes.
